You may have heard it said, "Viral marketing is the number one way of getting unlimited traffic to your site". But, what is viral marketing? In which ways is it done?...and how can I put it into practise in my business?
Viral marketing is old-fashionedly, but sometimes still known as word of mouth. That means that if people have a good experience of you and your business, they will tell their friends, who in turn will tell their friends. Soon, you have an army of followers and people who are beating down your door offering you money for your product or service.
With the information age, the internet has made it much more powerful than ever before, even though viral marketing has been around from the very beginning of creation. The internet is used by the vast majority of people in the west and also by a lot of people in the undeveloped world. Internet cafes exist all over the world.
Firstly, there are sites like HitsFrenzy. HitsFrenzy is a site that is totally free. You have to look through other people’s advertising in order to join. Maybe this isn’t the best advertising as you have got to go through other people’s advertising before you can join and have other people look at yours. The idea is that you get all your contacts to look at your HitsFrenzy site. When they join, they get people to look at their HitsFrenzy sites. They do the same...and so on, and so on. In the end you are supposed to have a million people all looking through your advertising.
It is much better advertising when people show other people what you are up to because they really actually like what you have put together. You can do this through video, audio or a blog post. Many corporate websites and blog sites have links that you can click on to share your video, audio or blog post with other people in their contact lists either on Facebook, Twitter, social bookmarking sites like Del.icio.us and many other social media sites.
Social media sites in themselves have facilities for you to share with your contacts the things that other friends have shown them. You can share different kinds of media with all your friends on Facebook and they can share that with their friends too. On Twitter, you can retweet one of your contacts tweets and those tweets will be seen by all of your contacts who aren’t all the contacts of the originator of the tweets. YouTube is utilising viral power too because it has a community that you can participate in and it allows for relationship building.
